It's as simple as that. I love how they're bound, their covers, and what's inside of them.
After stopping by the Fine Arts Library to pick up research books, I realized that I had walked into the perfect idea for this blog!
I've been there a few times before and was in awe of all the wonderful art books they had and I'm pretty ashamed of myself for not being there all the time, absorbing information like I so wanted to do.
So.
My goal is to go to the library every week and pick up two or three different books. They will probably remain in the art field since I'm more interested in allll that that encompasses than say music, but I won't restrain myself if I come across a cool music or dance book.
With these books I will go through them and blog about what I've learned, show some pages, and then create something that relates to the book.
I like have a project because it's easier to give myself a boundary and goal. Just blogging something creative every day was too open for me most days.
To start off, I found a very cool book that showcases different patterns.
I've recently become interested in patterns and how complex or simple they can be and still be successful. (And I've always thought it'd be cool to create a textile pattern...)
It is called
Pattern Design: Applications & Variations by Lou Andrea Savoir
Lips by Tunto, 2005.
I really loved the line work for the images
Ant'ique by Gam"plus"Fratesi, 2007.
The fact that the ornate wallpaper is made out of ants put together is pretttty cool.
Crab Damask by Don Funderburgh, 2006.
I thought the colors and designs were really nice, and I liked the random crab with the random scissors for some reason.
Camping by IVANAhelsinki, 2003.
The dress with the pattern is so pretty and I just loved the simplicity of the image and how the white counterform creates a nice pattern as well.
Maybe our fruits and veggies could turn into a pattern? I definitely know our type projects already turn into patterns on their own...
Like I said, I want to create something that goes off of what I saw, so I have an old pillowcase that I've always loved the rose designs it had on it. One day I actually scanned it in, but didn't really do anything else with it. Tonight I turned the designs into a pattern! Yayy
